The ingredients in your skin care can be very powerful for anti-ageing

There are many skin care products on the market - such as moisturisers, serums, toners and creams - which can make it difficult to find the right ones for you.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, an expert explained the ingredient to check for when deciding which products to use.

Vitamin C is a great ingredient for any anti-ageing skin care routine, leading aesthetics and skin care expert and co-founder of The Ardour Clinic Dr Paris Acharya said.

She explained: "If you're looking for anti-ageing products that will reduce lines and wrinkles, you want to invest in those that contain Vitamin C which is a common ingredient for mature skin as it retains skin elasticity and keeps skin fresh and young.

"The Complexion Perfector Plan from ALLSKIN|MED is a 28 day regime that will awaken the complexion and brighten the skin in as little as 15 days.

"Combining the revitalising properties of 15 per cent stabilised Vitamin C with the power of growth factors, you will see significant improvements in not only the radiance of your skin but the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles."

The merits of vitamin C have been backed by research and a study published in the National Library of Medicine looked at the effects of applying this topically.

It said the vitamin "has an anti-ageing effect by increasing collagen synthesis, stabilising collagen fibres and decreasing collagen degradation".

While vitamin C is a highly recommended product, the doctor suggested looking for skin care packed full of hyaluronic acid. She said: "Hyaluronic acid is another key ingredient for anti-ageing as it provides instant hydration, perfect for treating dehydrated skin.

"Hyaluronic acid is key to retaining moisture in the skin which in turn promotes plumper, more youthful skin.

"This is because it traps in the natural moisture and water levels to provide deep hydration." Dry skin can make wrinkles and fine lines more obvious, so keeping skin hydrated will make it appear more youthful.

A study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology highlighted the benefits of super hyaluronic acid, which it said enables "better and deeper penetration through the skin layers" and exhibits "efficient anti‐wrinkle activity" after just 28 days.
