Very ripped jeans may need to get the boot

Personal style changes with age and what may suit you to a tee in your 20s and 30s may not be totally appropriate in your 40s and 50s.

A fashion influencer for women over 40 shared the item women in this age group "should never wear" - overly ripped jeans.

Heather Anderson from YouTube's Heather Anderson - Fashion Over 40, acknowledged that clothing choice is very personal and that style "does not have rules". However, there are some items she believes "women over 40 should never wear".

Jeans are a universal staple in pretty much everyone's wardrobe, and women can pull them off from their 20s to their 90s.

However, style guru Heather advised that women over 40 should ditch overly ripped jeans once and for all.

She said: "Don't get me wrong, I love wearing ripped denim. I'm about to be 49 years old and I will still wear ripped denim, probably into my 50s and 60s.

"But I will say this: Ripped denim that's too ripped, with rips all down the legs, stay away from those." Instead, she advised opting for minimally ripped styles.

Heather revealed that her personal favourite pair of ripped jeans in her 40s is a high-waisted pair that are slimming whilst still having that cool, baggy look.

In addition to overly baggy jeans, the style guru advised that women over 40 should avoid wearing "sky-high heels they can't walk in - especially paired with mini-skirts".

Heather advised against sky-high heels in general. Five-inch stilettos may be popular among 20-year-olds, but may not work as well for women in their 40s and beyond. This is because "they're just not comfortable, let's be honest".

This doesn't mean women over 40 must ditch high heels altogether though. The expert suggested opting for a three-inch heel during the day, and four-inch heels at night.

Heather did note that heel height is very personal and is dependent on what the individual is able to comfortably walk in.

However, the fashion expert did claim that three or even two-inch heels are "better than a pair of flats".

As for which flat shoes are an absolute no-go, the fashion whizz advised avoiding round-toe styles.

According to the fashion enthusiast, these kind of shoes run the risk of making the wearer look "frumpy" and "older" than they are. What's more, they can even make your legs look shorter. The expert is a big fan of knee-high boots with a low heel.

In other anti-ageing style news, a fashion influencer for women over 50 shared which trouser style middle-aged ladies should "stop" wearing now.

Because the style is "tricky to pull off", she recommended a "way more flattering" option instead.

She also claimed that women can look 10 years younger in 10 minutes with a clothing swap.
