As women age, their skin loses structure, becomes thinner and appears more wrinkled.
While several skin care products help with anti-ageing, it is essential to concentrate on protecting the skin. To do this, an expert recommended a product every woman should include in their routine.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, cosmetic aesthetics doctor, Dr Ed Robinson said: "The most important thing hands down for a skin care routine is to wear SPF daily.
"I think this is something that people do not care about much in the UK where the weather is not that great."
SPF covers UVA and UVB, which protect skin against anti-ageing and skin cancers, the expert explained.
Dr Ed said: "Not everyone realises there are two waves of UV light, there is A and B.
"Simplifying things down, B causes tanning and burning. A penetrates deeper into the skin and accelerates the ageing process."
An article published by the National Library of Medicine highlighted: "UV exposure is one of the most important environmental health hazards, clearly causative for age-related skin changes such as wrinkling, pigmentary changes, thinning and carcinogenesis."
During the summer, wear SPF daily "to avoid burning and the risk of skin cancer".
Dr Ed said: "For the rest of the year, UVA levels are quite consistent. If you want to reduce the ageing process, you should wear SPF every single day.
"It makes the most sense to apply SPF in the morning if you are then going to go out to protect yourself. There is not much point in putting it on in the evening."
In terms of other skin care habits, "cleanse twice a day" to remove oils that accumulate during sleep in the morning. In the evening, cleansing helps to remove external pollutants and dead skin cells.

Dr Ed explained: "Your cleanser should not leave your skin feeling tight or uncomfortable, if it does, then your cleanser is too harsh for your skin. Really, when it comes to cleansing, it should be a gentle product.
"If your skin is dry, then moisturise. You do not have to moisturise if your skin is not dry, but most people do get a bit of dry skin. Moisturising can be helpful."
As women get older, there are more ways they can "optimise skin health" and get the best results.
One of these is using the correct ingredients in their skin care routines.
