Women should be applying SPF daily to protect their skin from sun damage and achieve a more youthful look

Developing a great skin care routine is essential for a youthful-looking complexion in your older years.

A skin expert spoke exclusively to GB News about how mature women can reverse the clock one skin-boosting product at a time.

Kimberley Medd, Head of Clinic at Face The Future said: "SPF is the unsung hero in any anti-ageing skin care routine.

"Face The Future’s YouGov survey found that 53 per cent of UK women are worried about ageing from sun damage, but not many people know that it is typically UVA rays that are primarily responsible for skin ageing (photoaging).

"[UVA rays] can lead to premature wrinkles, age spots, and can even penetrate through glass.

"Using a broad-spectrum SPF shields your skin from both UVA and UVB rays, which means less damage and a smoother, more even complexion over time.

"Wearing a daily SPF year-round like the Heliocare 360 Gel Oil-Free SPF 50 is crucial to protect against UV damage and prevent further ageing."

But while SPF is so essential, so many of us neglect it. A survey found that 60 per cent of those aged 45-54 only apply SPF when it is sunny outside.

The expert added: "Plus, the survey found that people aged 55 and over are the guiltiest of only buying SPF when they go on holiday."

Kimberley continued: "Think of SPF as your daily defence against ageing – it's the non-negotiable essential for healthy skin!"

The expert shared some other crucial skin care products with anti-ageing benefits.

She said: "When it comes to achieving that youthful glow, consistency and quality are key. I always recommend incorporating products that boost collagen production and hydration." The expert recommended a product that contains Retinol, as it is "amazing" for cell turnover.

She continued: "And of course, don’t forget to apply a good Hyaluronic Acid serum or moisturiser to keep your skin plump and hydrated.

"As we age, our skin needs a bit more TLC. I recommend focusing on products that provide intense hydration and support skin barrier function.

"Incorporating peptides can be a game changer for mature skin types – they help to firm and smooth the skin.

"Don't skip on exfoliation either; an anti-ageing exfoliant can help to remove dead skin cells and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, whilst also enhancing product absorption."

Another way women can reverse the clock is by rethinking their style choices.

Women have been told to "ditch" an ageing type of jewellery to create a more "youthful" appearance.
