A skin-boosting diet, coupled with the right face products, can work wonders for your complexion at any age

While great mature skin is partly determined by genetics, a person's skin care regime and diet are fundamental too.

An octogenarian with a radiant complexion shared how she achieved her youthful glow.

Content creator SkinFluencer (who goes by @yurileeeee on TikTok) introduced her "beautiful" grandmother on the sharing platform.

She said: "Everyone was asking my grandma's secret, so I'm going to show you guys her skin care routine."

The "stunning" octogenarian revealed that she starts by spraying toner on her face, before using a vitamin C serum.

Next, she applies an emulsion (lightweight moisturiser) and a moisturising cream.

According to the experts at skin care brand Amala Beauty, an emulsion is "designed to deliver moisture to the skin while providing a light, non-greasy feel", while a moisturiser "creates a protective barrier on the skin's surface to prevent moisture loss".

Finally, the glowing grandmother puts on a foundation product with built-in SPF.

As well as following an effective skin care regime, the 80-year-old eats her way to gorgeous skin.

Naming the foods she consumes "every day", she revealed that she enjoys a daily avocado.

The experts at the medical spa Vibrant Skin Bar confirmed the fruit's excellent skin-boosting benefits.

These included "intense" hydration, protection against free radicals, and the ability to minimise sun damage via its vitamins E and B3, carotenoids and omega fatty acids.

What's more, an avocado's vitamin C, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B3 and carotenoids content "help to decrease ageing signs".

An article entitled 'Avocado Consumption Increased Skin Elasticity and Firmness in Women - A Pilot Study', published in the National Library of Medicine, also spoke to the positives of eating avocados.

The experts stated: "Our findings suggest that daily oral avocado consumption may lead to enhanced elasticity and firmness of the facial skin in healthy women."

The octogenarian also eats seaweed and several fermented foods such as nattō (soybeans), miso soup and kimchi.

The experts at ZOE stated: "Fermented foods are made by adding microorganisms, like bacteria or yeast, to a food source."

Many fermented foods contain probiotics, which "can travel to your gut and provide some benefit to your health".

One benefit is that they "promote a healthier and more diverse gut microbiome". Good gut health is widely linked to glowing, irritation-free skin.

In other skin care news, an esthetician named the product she has been using for decades.
