Wrinkles appear when the skin gradually loses its elasticity due to a decline in oestrogen levels, and this is an inevitable process. Although the beauty industry has provided hundreds of products to tackle these issues, there is anecdotal evidence that natural ingredients do the job just as well.
A beauty enthusiast named Sally recently discussed the benefits of using castor oil as an anti-ageing agent on her YouTube channel Fabulous Over 50.
“My mind has been blown, seriously, this stuff is magical," she shared. "I want to share with you exactly how I used it as a woman over 50 - I’m 54."

According to the beauty influencer, the best castor oil is typically cold-pressed, hexane-free, organic and comes in an amber glass bottle.
“Using castor oil as a skin moisturiser is the first thing that I did," she said. "It was the first thing that I saw instant results with, literally the next day. I looked in the mirror and my under eyes looked brilliant.
“I’m prone to dark under-eyes and puffiness, and bar surgery, what else is there for the under eyes? I have tried skin boosters, [but] this stuff has been working its magic.
“It is very, very thick and that can put a lot of people off. However, it has a lot of antifungal and a lot of anti-bacterial properties, which is why it’s so good if you have a breakout."
Not only did the oil eliminate Sally's undereye bags, but it also tackled the lines around her mouth, forehead and eyebrows.
“I truly believe it has helped with the lines and wrinkles around my eyes, my forehead and [nasolabial folds], which make you look like you’re down-turned a little bit,” she noted.
The oil contains several moisturising components but the superstar ingredient is triglycerides, according to dermatologists.
Another unique property of the oil is its humectants, which draw moisture from the air into the skin.
Though the benefits of these chemicals for the skin are backed by science, there is limited research into the dermatological benefits of castor oil.
A big portion of the evidence regarding the benefits of using castor oil remains anecdotal rather than scientific.
