Moisturising is hailed as an effective anti-ageing strategy due to its skin-boosting benefits.
Indeed, the skin care experts at CeraVe stated: "Moisturisers are cream or gel-textured skin care products which contain a blend of humectants and emollients.
"Humectants are skin care ingredients which draw in moisture from the air and surface layers of skin and retain it. Emollients also help to trap moisture in skin, and aid in softening skin texture through rich hydration.
"It may be considered a basic skin care step, but the benefits of moisturiser are integral to visibly healthy and youthful-looking skin."
Not only does the powerhouse product hydrate the skin, regular moisturising can help improve issues such as "excess oiliness, redness and sensitivity".
According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, regularly moisturising is one of the most effective ways to "reduce premature skin ageing".
The experts explained: "Moisturiser traps water in our skin, giving it a more youthful appearance."
Moisturising is particularly important as you get older, as the skin can become "excessively dry" due to reduced sebum production.
