A targeted skin care regimen can support youthful skin

Beauty regimes that celebrate natural ageing while promoting healthy skin care routines are hugely popular, but it’s difficult to determine which ones work best.

The benefits of using active ingredients like retinol and vitamin C were highlighted in a recent TikTok video featuring a grandmother’s beauty secrets.

A 101-year-old has revealed her lifelong dedication to her skin care line founded by her son Peter Thomas Roth, which she credits for her remarkably youthful appearance.

Carole described her favourite products during a candid conversation with her grandson Ryan Roth, claiming she's followed the same routine for the past 30 years.

"They keep asking me what your skin care routine is because you look so good for 101", her 26-year-old grandson shared before detailing the centenarian’s daily regimen of cleansers, serums and creams.

The morning routine begins with an anti-ageing cleanser which Carole applies to both face and body.

She follows this with a hyaluronic cream, which she prefers for daytime use.

"It feels delicious," Carole declared. "It absorbs into the skin and does leave skin feeling greasy."

In the evening, she applies a PM retinol serum, labelling this step of the routine "fantastic".

The final step of her night-time routine involves applying a thicker cream just before bed, which helps maintain skin hydration throughout the night.

Another essential component of Carole’s regimen includes a vitamin C serum.

She noted: "Vitamin C is something everybody needs, inside and outside. That's why we have orange juice and grapefruit juice".

What are active ingredients?

Active skin care ingredients are specific ingredients added to products to target specific concerns.

Retinol, for example, targets an array of skin concerns including wrinkles, skin pigmentation and acne.

It achieves these results thanks to a vitamin A derivative that boosts collagen levels and maintains supple skin.

Vitamin C, on the other hand, functions primarily as an antioxidant which also boosts collagen and enhances skin brightness.
