Turning to her grandmother, she asked: "What are your secrets to looking amazing and fabulous at 81 years old?"
The octogenarian revealed that she has been able to achieve her long-lasting beauty by protecting her skin from the sun, maintaining an active lifestyle, getting enough sleep and eating healthily.
While many people are tempted to tan when it's sunny outside, catching the sun can be extremely harmful. To maintain youthful-looking skin in her 80s, the young-looking granny habitually avoids sitting in the sun.
Experts from News In Health (NIH) explained: "Too much exposure to UVB rays can lead to sunburn. UVA rays can travel more deeply into the skin than UVB rays, but both can affect your skin’s health. When UV rays enter skin cells, they upset delicate processes that affect the skin’s growth and appearance.
"Over time, exposure to these rays can make the skin less elastic. The skin may even become thickened and leathery, wrinkled or thinned like tissue paper."
Dr Barnett S Kramer, a cancer prevention expert at NIH, added: "The more sun exposure you have, the earlier your skin ages."
Staying out of the sun is an excellent way to combat premature skin ageing. Daily SPF is also essential, as is wearing a wide-brimmed hat and longer clothing items. Be warned that you can also tan or burn through a window, as these only provide partial shielding.
As well as protecting herself from the sun, the 81-year-old maintains an active lifestyle, swimming three times per week. US Dermatology Partners revealed that exercise has many skin-boosting benefits.
The experts explained that exercise causes improved blood flow to both nourish the cells and remove toxins from the skin. Not only this, it decreases stress to improve chronic skin conditions.
In terms of anti-ageing, referencing a study which looked at over 65s, the skin gurus added that "exercising may actually make it possible for you to turn back the clock for your skin".
