Moisturising regularly is key for younger-looking skin

Skin care products can be used to help your skin look smoother, clearer and younger.

According to an expert, moisturiser is one of the most important creams to use, but people often make the same mistake when applying this.

According to general practitioner, an aesthetic, skin and hair specialist at Este Medical Group Dr Keyana Emamian, don't only apply moisturiser to your face.

She explained the condition of our necks, chest and hands can be a giveaway of our age, so don't forget to apply your skin care to these areas.

Dr Keyana said: "One of the big mistakes that can lead to premature ageing is forgetting about three key areas when moisturising - the hands, the neck and the décolletage, the area between the neck and the chest.

“These areas are often the biggest culprits that show premature ageing and should not be neglected.”

The doctor explained moisturising is a step that is often missed by people who believe they have oily skin. Regardless of your skin type, regular moisturising is important.

She continued: "One of the most common misconceptions many people have is if you have oily skin you shouldn’t moisturise as it will clog your pores and cause breakouts.

“This is not true, there are moisturising products that work on oily skin too, and we should be all moisturising our skin twice a day - once in the morning and once in the evening.

“This is important to maintain the skin’s protective barrier to keep pollutants out and lock moisture in."

Dry skin can appear dull, cracked and patchy, and wrinkles may even be more visible than well-moisturised, plump skin.

All moisturisers will help with anti-ageing but women can boost their results by looking for specific ingredients.

Creams with ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol and hyaluronic acid have been hailed for their hydration and anti-ageing properties.

Eating foods high in vitamin C can also benefit the skin, according to experts. They said: "Eating water-rich foods, such as oranges, cucumbers, avocados, nuts and even sweet potatoes, is a great way to achieve glowing and hydrated skin."

Some studies have shown that vitamin C, found in oranges, can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
