Although ageing is nothing to be ashamed of, many women desire a more youthful-looking appearance and often turn to makeup.

A makeup artist has shared what she believes is "the most important" product for individuals to use in their routines.

Tricia Cusden spoke on YouTube (@LookFabulousForever) about what products people should include when applying their makeup.

She said: "I wanted to show you products that really pack a punch when enhancing an older face. One of these is underneath my base, where I have applied a wonderful face primer."

The expert explained how primer is the most essential of all the products you apply to your face.

Tricia stated: "Everything you put on top of it will not look so good or smooth and will disappear very fast if you do not wear a primer."

Women should use one that is easily applied and "silky to the touch", as "it will make a real difference" to how their faces look.

The makeup artist shared why she applies a primer. She said: "I am in my late 70s, and therefore, I use one because I want my skin to look as smooth and fresh as possible."

Another product that Tricia advised creating a "lovely sort of dewy freshness" is a highlighter.

She said: "It adds life to your face. I apply it by placing it on top of my cheekbones and creating a crescent shape.

"I apply it directly from the tube and work it through with my fingers. You can dab it in or smooth it in, and I also apply a little bit to the top of my brow bones."

The idea behind the highlighter is to draw light to the cheekbones, making them appear "more luminous".

Tricia explained that "older faces can look quite dull, so this is a way of lifting that dullness".

Another makeup artist who helps women in their 70s shared a product swap for a more youthful appearance.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, a dermatologist shared the makeup staples that are better to use as you get older.

Dr Stephanie Taylor, who is a senior consultant at MedPak Solutions, said: "I've worked with everyone, from teenagers to individuals in their 70s. My top makeup tip to you? Less is more."
