The expert advised Britons to take their time when applying makeup

As women age, many seek solutions to maintain youthful-looking skin, such as skin care routines, makeup, and adjustments to their diet.

A makeup artist has shared a product which is "fantastic for older skin" and should be used in every makeup routine.

Speaking on the YouTube channel Tricia Cusden, Look Fabulous Forever, makeup artist Sally said: "Primers are your best friend. I like to apply my skin care and let my moisturisers sink in for a few minutes.

"Then, I do my makeup application by applying a primer for my face. It is fantastic for smoothing out your face, filling out and blurring fine lines and wrinkles we all get."

Primer helps other products, such as foundation, go on more easily. It is a "completely smooth base" and helps makeup "stay on all day and night".

For your eyes, the makeup artist said: "I apply a tiny bit of eye primer to clean and dry eyelids before I start my eye makeup application.

"This will get rid of any little bits of discolouration and oil that I have on my eyelids."

The eye primer ensures your eyeshadow goes onto "a smooth base" and prevents it from "creasing, which can happen very easily".

Before applying your lipstick, Sally advised: "If you have little vertical lines on your lips, which happens to a lot of us, I would recommend a lip primer.

"Put this on a few minutes before you put on your lipstick around the outer edge of your lips."

This will create a barrier so when you apply your lipstick, it will not "migrate upwards and bleed".

Sally added: "Another tip is a very simple one, but it makes a big difference. It's taking your time when you're applying.

"I know sometimes we are all in a bit of a hurry, but if you can build in a little bit of extra time to apply makeup, particularly for a special occasion, it can make applying makeup a joyous, creative experience.

"Never rush mascara application because if you rush, you are going to make a mess, blob and it'll take much longer to remove the blobs and start again."

Another makeup artist recently shared an "excellent product for women in their 50s" to enhance their eyes.
