The skin care steps you take pre-makeup are crucial for a youthful look
Makeup can be transformative when applied correctly but the importance of creating a pre-makeup base must not be underestimated.
How you prep your skin before applying your makeup can make a world of difference. According to one makeup artist, applying eye cream is essential before you start using primer, foundation, contour and more.
Lauriely Taylor (known as Lauriely Taylor Makeup & Style on YouTube) took to the sharing platform to teach mature women how to achieve a more "youthful" look.
She offered makeup tips ranging from primer to contour to lip liner, but stressed the importance of prepping the skin beforehand.

Lauriely emphasised that the skin needs to be fully hydrated from the inside and out. Therefore, ladies should be drinking plenty of water and diligently applying a moisturiser.
While we are often vigilant about moisturising our faces, it's important not to skip the neck or décolletage - the area of the body that includes the neck, shoulders, chest, collarbone and cleavage.
The expert said: "Your décolletage can really show that you're ageing - we tend to forget to sunscreen it and we get age spots - so it's very important you do your décolletage."
Next, the makeup artist advised applying an eye cream - it's "really, really nice". The experts at CeraVe explained that eye cream is a "moisturising product that has been formulated with the specific needs of your delicate eye area in mind".
Demonstrating the application on herself, she said: "This is a hydrating eye cream. I pop this on my eyelids and underneath as well.
"Instantly, my face is starting to look fresher and brighter and that's just adding some hydration to the skin and really helping to plump it up."
Lauriely then suggested applying a lip balm to hydrate the lips or using the residual eye cream.
The expert explained: "I really make sure my lips are hydrated because when they start looking dry, this can be quite ageing as well."

Once the skin is sufficiently hydrated, sunscreen is the next key step. While many make the mistake of just wearing sunscreen when it's hot outside, this essential product should be worn year-round.
Lauriely told women to apply this to their entire face, ears, neck, décolletage and back of the hands. The makeup artist revealed that she uses a product with SPF 50.
Another makeup artist divulged an expert tip for a beautiful look. Giving ladies a word of warning, she named the black eye product that could age you by 15 years.
One beauty enthusiast revealed that while she is 56 years old, she can look 10 years younger in 10 minutes thanks to a mascara hack that's "just a little bit kinder".
