Women have been advised to ditch their black eyeliner pencils and find new ways to "enhance" their eyes

Makeup can be transformative and take years off a woman's appearance if applied correctly. However, the wrong makeup techniques can make a woman look older than her years.

A makeup artist took to YouTube to share the "makeup mistakes that age you", plus how to rectify them. The expert advised ladies to avoid using a black eyeliner pencil.

Ali Andreea said: "There is nothing wrong with being old, with ageing - it's a completely natural process. Don't let society and social media tell you otherwise.

"However, when you add years on to your face because of makeup, that's when I kind of have a problem with it."

In her YouTube video, Ali named the product that will "age" you if applied too much, claiming that "it's going to look really bad".

She also alerted her viewers to an eyeliner mistake that can be prematurely ageing.

Ali stated: "If you're using black around the eyes, that's it - plus five, 10, 15 years even. It not only ages you but it gives you a very severe look."

Many women turn to a black eyeliner pencil in an attempt to "enhance" their eyes, but the expert advised strongly against this.

Instead, women who want to make their eyes "pop" should use mascara, ensuring they apply it from the root of the lash.

They should also find an eyeliner pencil in another colour. According to the expert, browns and taupes work well - "just not black".

For expert eyeliner application, Ali told viewers to go in with the product very close to the upper lash line, creating a tiny wing at the outer corners of the eyes, before smudging it gently with a finger.

Moving on to the lower lash line, Ali advised women to start at the outer corner and draw inwards a little - not as far as the inner corner - before smudging.

For those who enjoy using dark colours, darker shades of brown and blue work well, the expert advised.

The expert shared a second makeup mistake women make that ages them, claiming that it's the "worst" of all.
