With the right strategies, it's possible to maintain a youthful look well into your 50s, 60s and beyond

Women who maintain a youthful look throughout their lives often credit their agelessness to good genetics.

However, the right lifestyle habits, diet, skin care and beauty regime can also play a major part.

GB News spoke exclusively to 54-year-old Laura K Connell about how she passes for someone much younger than her years.

While she doesn't cut out any foods - striving only to eat healthily - the youthful 50-something has a very strict rule regarding alcohol.

The quinquagenarian stated: "I'm 54 and people are always shocked when I tell them how old I am."

Revealing that she "has never had any kind of surgery or medical treatments like Botox", Laura relies on a healthy lifestyle to maintain her youthfulness.

"I do all the typical things like good diet, exercise, regular haircuts and good fashion choices," she said.

Laura, who works as a trauma-informed coach, also tries to minimise stress and take care of her mental health.

She explained: "Healing my past trauma has been the number one reason I look younger now than I did when I was still suffering.

"That includes giving up alcohol and choosing a stress-free lifestyle with the help of daily meditation, self-care and quitting a soul-sucking job to start my own business.

"Being your authentic self and feeling your feelings rather than avoiding them with alcohol is probably the best way to stay young-looking."

An article entitled 'The Link between Chronic Stress and Accelerated Aging', published in the National Library of Medicine, warned that stress can have a detrimental effect on a person's health and appearance.

Experts explained: "People exposed to chronic stress age rapidly. The telomeres in their cells of all types shorten faster.

"Inflammation is another important feature of stress that, along with ageing, accounts for the phenomenon of inflammaging.

"In addition to ageing itself, inflammaging can contribute to the development of several pathologies, including atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension and others."

As for alcohol, experts have warned that alongside smoking, it "significantly impacts skin and volume-related facial ageing".

Experts stated: "Heavy alcohol use (eight or more drinks per week) was associated with increased upper facial lines, under-eye puffiness, oral commissures, midface volume loss and blood vessels."

This was cited in 'Impact of Smoking and Alcohol Use on Facial Aging in Women: Results of a Large Multinational, Multiracial, Cross-sectional Survey', also published in the National Library of Medicine.

For those looking to turn back the clock, excellent skin care is also a must. A 44-year-old revealed that she has maintained her glow for over a decade by adding an ingredient to her morning coffee.
