A skin care expert shared five foods with anti-ageing and skin-enhancing benefits

Cold weather is harsh on the skin and you may need to switch up the skin care products you use at this time of year.

An aesthetic doctor shared eating five foods can also work wonders if trying to achieve glowing skin.

Dr Keyana Emamian of Este Medical Group said: “A nutrient-rich diet can make all the difference during winter.

“There are a few powerhouse foods that can protect your skin from dryness, boost hydration and promote a radiant glow, even in the coldest months.”

Avocados

The doctor explained: “Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats that help lock in hydration and maintain skin elasticity.

“They’re also a fantastic source of vitamin E, an antioxidant that protects against free radical damage and supports a smooth, glowing complexion.”

Berries

“Berries [such as blueberries, strawberries and raspberries] are packed with vitamin C, which is essential for collagen production.

“Collagen is the protein responsible for keeping your skin firm and youthful, and consuming berries regularly can reduce the appearance of fine lines and dullness.”

Fatty fish

Aim to include fatty fish in your diet at least twice a week to get the optimal benefits, according to the doctor.

Dr Keyana added: "Omega-3s strengthen the skin barrier, locking in moisture and reducing inflammation. They’re particularly beneficial for combating winter dryness and flaky skin.”

Leafy greens

Kale, spinach and Swiss chard are among the best for your skin, with the expert calling them "powerhouses". She added: "Leafy greens are rich in vitamins A and C, which promote skin repair and renewal.

Nuts and seeds

It is a lesser-known fact that nuts and seeds deliver hydration and protection to your skin.

The expert added: "Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds and flaxseeds are rich in vitamin E, zinc and essential fatty acids, which help soothe dry, irritated skin and improve elasticity."

Snacking on a portion of nuts or sprinkling seeds on porridge or salads can be a good way to get more of these into your diet, the doctor suggested.
