Your powder foundation, blush and bronzer could be ageing you prematurely

While ageing is a gift and something to celebrate, there is no shame in wanting to look a little younger than your years.

A makeup artist spoke exclusively to GB News about how women over 50 can shave years off their appearance with the right know-how. Providing a warning to makeup users, she named the mistakes that are instantly ageing.

Saffron Hughes from False Eyelashes stated: "Ageing is a natural and beautiful process, however, you could be adding years to your face just by the way you apply your makeup."

According to the expert, one of the "common" makeup mistakes women over 50 make is opting for powder products over their cream or liquid-based counterparts.

She said: "As powder can stick in fine lines and make your base look cakey, I'd only recommend using a small amount - if any at all.

"I'd steer clear of powder products altogether and instead, buy their cream or liquid-based alternatives. This includes foundations, blushes, bronzers and even eyeshadows."

As the skin becomes drier with age, products that have added "moisture" are particularly beneficial.

Saffron added that cream makeup products are more "mistake-proof". She explained that when it comes to liquid cosmetics, "you just need to start with a small amount and gradually build".

The experts at Dermacare Direct confirmed that liquid foundation works better than powder for older women.

"Liquid foundation is usually favoured for very mature skin as powder foundation can settle if you have deep fine lines," skin gurus warned.

"A liquid formula is a great all-rounder for everyone but is highly recommended for dry skin types, rosacea, mature skin, or those seeking a hydrating base."

Saffron also spoke to GB News about the concealer method that is causing "extreme creasing".

When applied properly, concealer can brighten the skin, disguise dark circles and camouflage blemishes, resulting in a younger-looking appearance.

However, the wrong application technique can make a woman look older than her years.

Discouraging ladies from caking on the concealer, the makeup said: "The expression 'less is more' definitely applies when it comes to makeup on mature skin."
