While all-black ensembles are considered chic, they can also be quite severe on middle-aged women

Deirdre Nicholas from the YouTube channel 50 & Fabulous with My Friend Deirdre shared her top tips on how ladies "can look 10 years younger" with simple wardrobe hacks.
While black is a slimming, flattering colour, the style influencer shared why women over 50 should not base their whole outfit around this shade.
Deirdre advised middle-aged women: "Stop wearing all black clothing - unless you love it of course." She encouraged them not to forgo their black clothing items completely, but to consider replacing some of them with different colours.
Black is undoubtedly fashionable - and "incredibly versatile" too - but the expert claimed it can look a little "stark" on women over 50. She also suggested that a middle-aged woman wearing head-to-toe black runs the risk of looking "tired".

The expert also claimed that wearing black right next to the face - for example, a high-neck jumper - can appear particularly severe.
Instead of wearing black next to the face, Deirdre advised opting for softer neutrals such as light brown, light grey and ivory.
The style influencer said: "Most of these colours can seem just as slimming as black but they will look younger.
"You can try cream, off-white, tan, dove grey, even gold - they'll all reflect a lot more light and radiance onto the face than black."
It's important to remember that the skin becomes paler, thinner, and more translucent with age.
This can explain why an all-black ensemble may have suited you in your 20s, 30s and 40s, but not in your 50s and above.
But for those who want to, it is still possible for middle-aged women to rock an all-black outfit, with the help of a few simple tricks that stop them from looking "tired" and "drawn". Firstly, the expert advised "breaking up" the block of colour.
She said that women over 50 can do this by "exposing a little skin" at the wrists, ankles, and neck.
They can also reserve the colour black for skirts and trousers so it is not directly next to the face.
In these cases, ladies can pair their black bottoms with a lighter, brighter top to "reflect light onto them".

For ladies who simply love wearing black head-to-toe, mixing up textures is a great way to do this whilst still looking youthful and dynamic.
Alternatively, add a chunky gold or silver necklace to create a focal point, or a pop of colour such as a bright blue scarf for a touch of vibrancy. A colourful accessory like a bag can also "make all the difference".
To "counteract the darkness" of black clothing, Deirdre also advised wearing plenty of blush and sporting a bright lip colour.
In other anti-ageing fashion news, the influencer told women over 50 to "stop" wearing a trouser style that is "tricky" to pull off.
