The internet offers a wealth of information about the best way to look after your skin and how to make it look brighter, plumper and more youthful.
But there are a lot of myths out there. An expert explains the common misconceptions to avoid for your best skin.
You may think using more products will equate to better results, but that's not necessarily the case. In fact, the managing director of the Harley Street Skin Clinic Sophie Cooper suggested fewer steps will improve the appearance of your skin.
She said: "Using too many products can overwhelm the skin, leading to congestion and breakouts.
Exfoliating can be harsh on the skin

"Excess active ingredients can irritate the skin, especially if incompatible ingredients are mixed, like retinol with strong acids.
"A streamlined routine with essential products like a cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen often yields better results than a complex routine."
Moisturisers are great for hydrated skin, which can make fine lines and wrinkles less prominent. A good SPF is also important to protect your skin from signs of damage.
Another popular product in many skin care regimes is an exfoliator, but the expert warned to proceed with caution.
Sophie continued: “I would not recommend daily exfoliation as it can irritate your skin and disrupt its natural barrier.
"Exfoliating one to three times a week is the best course of action to effectively remove dead skin cells while allowing your skin to maintain its natural moisture balance and avoiding excessive irritation."
Exfoliating regularly has been linked to healthy and youthful skin, as it can encourage cellular turnover. However, overdoing this can damage the skin.
On the other hand, a product that is often debated is eye cream. According to Sophie, this is worth adding to your makeup bag.

She said: “Eye creams are worthwhile for many reasons. The skin around your eyes is extremely sensitive and delicate, eye creams are formulated specifically for this reason.
"They often contain ingredients such as peptides and antioxidants to address specific concerns like puffiness and dark circles, helping improve overall appearance of the eye area."
This comes as an expert shared the "most important" skin care product for a "wrinkle-free complexion".
