The cheapest places to buy a house in the UK has been shared

Locations in Scotland dominated the top five list of cheapest places to buy.

The research considers all factors from the cost of the house, average bills and mortgage rates.

Aberdeen was considered to be the overall cheapest place to buy, according to the research by L&C Mortgages.

This was followed by other Scottish locations, with Dundee the number two and Glasgow (average cost £168,415) as the fourth cheapest place to buy.

All average house prices on the list were under £170,000, with the most expensive being in Bradford at £168,497.

The average price of a house in Aberdeen is £139,551. This wasn't the lowest house price on the list, but factors such as cheap utilities and low council tax payments put it up the top overall.

The average utilities, council tax and mortgage per month was the lowest in Aberdeen, at an average of £988.

This worked out at around 37 per cent of resident's average monthly salaries.

Dundee had an average house price of £142,777 with the cost of utilities, council tax and mortgage sitting at around £1,049.

The city with the cheapest house to buy was Durham, with an average cost of £127,047.

It sat at number five on the overall list, however, due to residents paying around 45 per cent of their monthly salary on bills.

Homes in Scotland and the north of England made up the majority of the list.

A L&C Mortgages spokesperson said: “This study reveals the cheapest cities to own a home throughout the nation.

"The research, which has considered monthly mortgage rates alongside utilities and council tax, shows that the least expensive cities are predominantly located in the nation’s northern regions.
