Your one-length haircut may be shapeless and create unnecessary bluntness
The right haircut can be transformative, flattering a woman's face and taking years off her appearance.
An experienced hairstylist shared the top chops for women in their 40s and beyond, singing the praises of the long, layered cut.
Speaking on YouTube, Justin Hickox said: "I have discovered three specific hairstyles that women over 40 absolutely love.
"Can we address the elephant-in-the-room question? Yes, I get it, if you're new to me, you're looking at me like, 'Dude, you're a guy, how do you know what women want?'.
According to the hair guru, the 'long, layered cut' works wonders for women over 40

"And I would say that that's a fair question. So, I've been doing hair since 1995 and in over a quarter of a century - for whatever reason - my clientele has been 85 per cent female and more than 90 per cent over 40 years old."
Sharing one hairstyle that works wonders for the 40-plus demographic, Justin praised the "long, layered cut".
Explaining why it's such a beloved chop, the hair guru said that the layers allow for "lots of movement and texture".
They also "take a lot of bulk out of the bottom". Oftentimes, long haircuts that are one length can make it appear "heavy at the top and full at the bottom".
Justin explained: "This creates a triangular shape that brings your eye down, but it also limits you from the ability to - many times, regardless of your texture - create a solid amount of volume in the crown or the top, where many times we want it.
"And overall, it just doesn't hold the shape as well as a layered shape would."
According to the expert, layering can be an excellent complement for thinner hair, as it can give it a "fuller, thicker" appearance.
Long, layered styles are also versatile, as these can be worn up or down, straight or curly. Face-framing layers, in particular, can "really open up the face".
Women can also "accentuate their cheek structure" or "bring out their eyes" with layers.
But although the "long, layered cut" is a great option for ladies in their 40s and beyond, the expert advised against using this phrase to describe the cut during their next trip to the salon.

Justin said: "They might not know what you're talking about - or worse yet - they might think they know what you're talking about and it might be something very different and you end up with something that doesn't look anything like what you were imagining. So, ignore the name and work with the actual visual of the style."
There are plenty of other ways women can improve their hair - and it doesn't have to cost a thing.
One hairdresser shared the brushing method that will give you "the best hair of your life", reducing breakages every time.
