A hair care enthusiast has shared a promising hack known to moisturise and nourish the scalp

Silky soft hair is a goal many people strive for, but it can be tricky knowing where to start. Focusing on scalp health, however, is a strong starting point.

Selina Da Silva claims jojoba oil helped her grow long, luscious locks when applied to the lengths weekly.

She described how she uses the oil in a recent TikTok, captioned: “You started adding jojoba oil to your hair oiling routine and now your hair is always shiny and silky.”

She stated elsewhere that she applies the oil to the lengths of her strands once a week, brushing the product through and letting it sit for one to 1.5 hours.

“Then wash it out with shampoo and condition or use a hair mask,” she added. “The results can be seen so fast when doing it once a week.”

Like other types of oil, applying jojoba to the scalp regularly can prevent breakage and strengthen the strands over time.

The outer layer of hair, known as the cuticle, is responsible for how light reflects. So when hair breaks, it creates a rough and uneven surface on the cuticle and scatters light.

Reducing breakages eventually contributes to shinier-looking hair because the surface of the strand is more even.

While there is limited evidence that jojoba oil directly affects hair growth, scientists believe it increases growth rate by acting on the follicles.

The natural ingredient offers the unique benefits of moisturising and nourishing the scalp, ultimately creating a healthier environment for hair growth.

It does this primarily by mimicking the natural oils produced by the scalp and helping to balance oil production.

Additional research has shown it can also help treat additional scalp issues related to dryness and dandruff.

The practice of oiling itself has been deemed highly beneficial for individuals looking to improve their hair health.

In 2015, a study showed that the weekly practice helps revive hair by giving the scalp a much-needed moisture boost.

The method involves applying oil to the scalp and massaging the product with fingertips using circular motions.

Letting the product sit for a few hours will enhance moisture and protect hair when it is subsequently washed with shampoo.
