Hair loss becomes more common with age but there are some ways to slow it down
Men and women may notice their hair start to thin as the years go on, and there many reasons why this could be happening.
While some hair loss is completely normal and unavoidable, a hair expert shared a word of warning when it comes to shampoo.
Shampoos are often full of chemicals and some of these can be detrimental to your locks, according to experts from hair transplant clinic Vera Clinic. They also shared knowledge about hair can slow down hair loss.
They said: "There’s no reason to feel embarrassed or self-conscious about hair loss, as everyone experiences it to some degree during their lifetime.

“However, it’s helpful to understand the information around hair loss, so you know when it becomes a cause for concern.
"A personalised approach considering baldness severity, lifestyle, and treatment preferences is essential."
They added that "what shampoo is good for hair loss?" is one of the most searched hair-related questions.
The experts responded: "Rather than focusing on shampoos that claim to combat hair loss, prioritise avoiding harmful ingredients to keep your hair strong and healthy."
Four ingredients were specifically mentioned as ones that should be avoided - sulfates, formaldehyde, keratin and dimethicone.
However, the expert did highlight "sensitivity to ingredients varies; what causes hair loss for one person might not affect another".
Sulfates
The experts said: "Sulfates are chemicals with strong cleansing agents that may damage the hair follicle and lead to breakage, which can contribute to hair loss."
Formaldehyde
They added: "Although safe in small amounts, formaldehyde extends product shelf life but is a carcinogen at high levels.
"It can irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs, especially in salon workers or users of hair treatments. DMDM hydantoin, a formaldehyde donor, may cause scalp irritation linked to hair loss."

Keratin
The experts continued: "Used to reduce frizz and add shine, keratin treatments often contain formaldehyde and use high heat, which can damage hair, causing brittleness and breakage."
Dimethicone
"Dimethicone is a silicone that protects hair but may cause buildup, potentially blocking nutrients. Use cautiously and stop if buildup or hair loss occurs," the hair pros concluded.
