An expert spoke exclusively with GB News on how to combat hair loss

According to experts, it is normal for people to lose between 50 and 100 strands of hair every day.

This can increase if you are going through a particularly stressful period, or for women when they are pregnant. However, if you find that your hair is no longer growing back as full, more action may be needed.

Hair transplant surgeon Dr Roshan Vera spoke exclusively to GB News about the measures individuals can take to grow thicker and longer hair.

He said: "One suitable treatment can be minoxidil, a medication shown to increase hair density and thickness.

"This works by prolonging the growth phase of the hair cycle and shortening the shedding phase."

A study published in the National Library of Medicine illustrated the benefits of using minoxidil for hair loss.

It stated: "Topical minoxidil solution two per cent stimulates new hair growth and helps stop the loss of hair in individuals with androgenetic alopecia."

Aside from minoxidil, people can choose from multiple over-the-counter options, such as "hair oils and supplements".

Dr Roshan explained: "Applying oils to your scalp can aid hair growth, combined with regular scalp massages to enhance blood circulation to your hair follicles."

The doctor recommended consulting a medical professional to develop a personalised plan if you are experiencing excessive hair loss.

When washing your hair, having a "dedicated routine with products containing natural ingredients" can be beneficial.

He recommended: "Avoid shampoos with parabens and certain alcohols, as they can have a dehydrating effect on both the hair and the scalp.

"Synthetic fragrances, or 'parfum', can also strip away at the scalp's natural oils, disrupting the hair's growth cycle."

When brushing your hair after showering, ensure the strands are not tangled, as you could "pull too hard on the scalp".

Dr Roshan added: "If your hair feels brittle, Coconut or Argan Oil can be good for giving your hair extra moisture."

Another hair expert shared with GB News the "fundamental" washing tips for healthy hair.
