Maintaining thick, healthy and luscious hair is the desire of many, although it can sometimes feel like an unattainable goal.
But understanding how hair grows may be the secret to cracking the code and achieving a beautiful barnet - even after hair loss.
A trichologist spoke exclusively to GB News about what causes hair loss over time and how to address it.
Samantha Stewart from The Spencer Clinic stated: "Hair is made up of dead keratin cells. The health of each strand is determined during its formation beneath the scalp and is influenced by internal health.
'Hair can become finer due to hormonal imbalances, illness, stress, trauma and certain medications'
GETTY"Once hair grows out of the scalp, how you treat it through styling, products, and heat impacts its appearance and texture.
"Genetically, your natural hair texture cannot be changed. However, hair can become finer over time due to hormonal imbalances, illness, stress, trauma and certain medications."
The trichologist shared how to combat hair loss, explaining that if you "address the underlying issues", you can "restore your texture and density".
Using products that "maintain moisture" is a good first step, as this protects the hair strands and prevents breakage.
Avoiding excessive heat styling and chemical treatments is also advised, as these can "compromise the hair shaft".
Regular visits to the hairdresser are also a good idea "to reduce split ends, breakages and preserve length".
Regarding the best products to use, the hair expert advised: "If you have naturally finer hair, volumising shampoos and styling products can temporarily boost volume."
Samantha encouraged women to wear their hair in its "natural texture" - particularly if they have curly or coily hair - to create a fuller and thicker appearance.
The expert added that food choices also matter considerably for "optimal hair growth", and eating a "nutrient-rich diet" can support your locks.
The trichologist explained: "Hair cells are among the fastest-dividing in the body and need a constant supply of nutrients.

GETTY"Include foods rich in vitamins A, C, D, E, zinc, iron and omega-3 fatty acids. Foods like eggs, salmon, leafy greens, and nuts promote strong, healthy hair."
Ensuring you stay hydrated is key too, as "dehydration leads to dry, brittle strands and slower growth". In light of this, the expert encouraged individuals to "drink plenty of water daily".
