Several factors influence the thickness and length of hair, including genetics, hormones, scalp condition, diet, and stress.
A dermatologist has shared "one of the most effective" approaches to combatting female hair loss.
Dr Ellie Rashid spoke exclusively to GB News about what foods women need to include in their diets for "scalp and hair health".
She advised: "A protein-rich diet that includes eggs, fish, lean meats, and legumes supports better scalp and follicular health."
The dermatologist recommended including foods rich in omega-3 into your diet
GETTYIncluding foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as oily fish, can support "scalp health" and increase hair growth.
The doctor said: "Eat oily fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts to help maintain scalp hydration and reduce inflammation."
A study published in the National Library of Medicine shared how omega-3 fights against hair loss. It stated: "A six-month supplementation with omega 3&6 and antioxidants acts efficiently against hair loss in improving hair density and reducing the telogen percentage and the proportion of miniaturised anagen hair."
Aside from diet, how you wash your hair can make a huge difference to its length and thickness.

The dermatologist explained: "Maintaining a proper hair-washing routine is crucial. Overwashing can strip the scalp of natural oils, leading to dryness and increased breakage, while under-washing can result in buildup, clogged follicles, and inflammation."
Dr Rashid recommended washing hair "every other day" with a cleansing shampoo or a scalp exfoliator to "maintain a healthy scalp".
She added: "Scalp exfoliation using mild chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid and glycolic acid can remove dead skin cells and excess sebum, reducing follicle-clogging."
When washing your hair, ensure you are using a temperature that will not cause damage.
