An expert warned against common hair care mistakes

There is much debate over how often you should wash your hair, and it can vary depending on the type and texture of your locks.

Speaking to GB News, a hair expert warned against shampooing too regularly.

Even the best conditioning shampoos can strip your hair of oils, leaving it looking dry and weak, according to the founder of Oblique House of Hair Mariana Eidelkind.

She said to avoid washing your locks more than three times a week if you want your healthiest-looking barnet.

She said: "Washing your hair too frequently can strip the hair of its natural oils, causing it to lose its moisture and lead to frizz.

"Instead, aim to wash your hair two to three times a week maximum."

Those who are prone to greasy hair may reach for dry shampoo as an alternative between washes, however, this can also cause damage.

Mariana continued: "In between washes, try not to use dry shampoo as this can dehydrate your strands and leave residue on the scalp.

"Instead, opt for a boar hairbrush to distribute the natural oils from your scalp through the lengths of your hair. This is ideal if you deal with greasy roots or dry ends that can be a problem for day three hair."

Boar hair brushes can be conditioning for your hair as they distribute oils, but it is worth noting they might not be suitable for all hair types.

Those who do feel the need to wash their hair more regularly can benefit from professional treatments, as these can keep the hair clean with less damage.

The expert added: "If you require more frequent hair washing, I recommend a weekly professional scalp spa treatment which exfoliates the scalp whilst protecting its natural properties.

"This will help remove excess oil and buildup, as well as infuse the scalp with detoxing ingredients that reduce sebum production, such as celery seed extract."

This comes as Mariana shared six hair care tips that can help your hair look its best and remain in good condition.

Women were told the "number one" hair care rule for smooth, voluminous locks and advice to reduce frizziness.

Various treatments and daily hair care tactics can help you to achieve this. The expert also shared the importance of protecting your hair from poor weather conditions in autumn and winter.
