The best hair care advice will change depending on the texture of your hair

Hair washing is important for healthy-looking locks, but overdoing this can do more harm than good.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, an expert shared how often to complete this task depending on your hair type and living conditions.

Generally, washing your barnet every few days will be enough, according to hair expert Eli Harel.

He said: "How often you wash your hair really depends on your hair type, scalp condition, and lifestyle.

"For most people, washing two to three times a week is enough to keep hair clean without stripping away natural oils."

Overwashing not only affects the shine of your hair, but can lead to damage and hair loss. However, some people will need to shampoo more frequently.

Eli continued: "If you have oily hair, sweat a lot, or live in a humid area, washing daily can be fine. Just use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to avoid drying out your scalp."

Those with a thicker mane may feel they need to wash less often. Washing too much could cause brittleness.

The hair pro continued: "On the other hand, people with dry, curly, or textured hair should wash less often.

"These hair types need natural oils to stay healthy, so washing too much can leave them dry and brittle."

Ultimately, you will know your hair type and the environment you are exposed to, and these should be taken into consideration when cleansing your hair.

The best thing to do is find the right shampoo for your hair type and "trust how your hair feels".

Eli concluded: "If it looks greasy or feels heavy, wash it. If it's still looking fresh, wait another day or two."

As well as the right shampoos and conditioners, an expert suggested another in-shower product to "rejuvenate" hair.

A dermatologist said: "Opting for deep conditioning masks can help keep hair strong and hydrated." They recommended using one every few washes.
