For many people, daily washing is the norm, but there is a lot of information advising against this.
So, how often should you really wash your locks? Experts share who will benefit the most from daily washing.
Cleaning your hair regularly will get rid of dirt buildup and product, but it can also strip the scalp and hair of natural oils, ultimately affecting shine.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, director of Client Services at Barber Surgeons Guild Alexia Donovan discussed the benefits of daily washing.
She said: "It's perfectly fine to wash daily, especially if you use a lot of product, have excessive oil or use scalp concealers.
"We advise our patients to wash their hair at least every other day to keep their scalp clean and promote healthy hair growth.
"Sebum, excess product, dead skin cells and environmental factors can build up on the scalp, essentially blocking the hair follicles."
Regular washing will keep the scalp clean and is particularly important for those who are exposed to the damaging external factors.
Dr Ross Kopelman, a hair transplant surgeon at Kopelman Hair Restoration, shared a similar sentiment.
He added: "For most people, washing your hair every day or every other day is ideal, especially if you have an oily scalp, work out frequently, or live in an urban environment where your scalp is exposed to sweat, dirt and pollutants.
"Keeping your scalp clean and free of buildup helps optimise the health of the follicles and encourages strong, healthy hair growth."
He explained daily washing can be beneficial, but there are some exceptions. Your hair texture, how much product you use, how active you are and the climate you live in can all affect this.

Some people can benefit from daily hair-washing
GETTYDr Kopelman continued: "That said, not everyone needs to wash daily. If you have very dry, curly, or textured hair, you may benefit from washing every two to three days or even weekly, as these hair types tend to be more prone to dryness.
"But even in these cases, it’s still important to cleanse your scalp thoroughly when you do wash.
"I also emphasise using a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo to avoid over-stripping your natural oils.
"For those who wash frequently, a mild, hydrating formula paired with a conditioner will help maintain moisture balance while still keeping the scalp clean and healthy."
