If you're hoping to grow long, luscious locks, you may be tempted to skip trips to the hairdresser. However, the power of regular chops should not be underestimated.
GB News spoke exclusively to a hair expert about why women need to prioritise trims for long-term gain, and why going too long between salon visits is harmful.
Hairstylist and salon owner Dawna Jarvis stated: "A rumour that's been going around for years is the more you trim your hair, the faster it grows - but that's not exactly what's happening."
She explained that the reason hairstylists encourage regular trims is, not to help your hair grow faster, but healthier, combatting split ends before they get out of control.

"If you get a split end at the bottom of your hair and you don't get it trimmed every six to eight weeks, that split end just travels higher and higher up the strand of your hair until eventually, it just breaks off," she explained.
"So when my clients say, 'I want to grow my hair out and I'm not going to get it cut,' I say that it's a bad idea - a really bad idea."
If you neglect these essential trims, you could find yourself in the hair salon six months later with "mostly broken and dead" ends.
Dawna continued: "The reason people say your hair grows fast when you get it trimmed is because it grows healthier.
"People don't realise what a split end actually does and that it does travel. What I sometimes tell my clients is to get a 'no haircut haircut'.
"You won't even know that we did it, just come in and get that edge off and let's keep it healthy."
Dawna also spoke to GB News about the "unflattering" hair colour women over 50 should avoid.
While darker shades can look chic and dynamic, they may highlight signs of ageing rather than disguise them.

Consequently, the expert advised this demographic to opt for some "highlights" around the face to "brighten" up their complexion.
"It's like you have been in the sun - a lot of people are going for the summer, natural highlights look," she explained. "That is super complementary."
While trips to the hair salon are essential for maintaining a beautiful barnet, at-home care is crucial too - including ensuring you wash your hair correctly.
Women were also told the "demonised" shampoo ingredient that could actually give you thicker, fuller hair.
