A simple three-step routine may enhance your hair's natural shine, a beauty enthusiast claims. She explained how having long, fried hair can add years to your appearance

Hair care looks different for everyone, but it becomes increasingly important to establish a regimen with age.

This is because less sebum - which is crucial for shiny hair - is secreted from the scalp as hormones decline.

To counter these changes, one content creator recommends following a shower routine that emphasises natural texture and shine.

The tip comes from Tammy, whose YouTube channel Tammy's Timeless Beauty looks at different lifestyle hacks for a healthier look.

“If you choose to wear your hair long no matter what age you are, you must keep it healthy, especially if you are an older woman," she said.

“Because if you do not, fried hair is going to add at least five to 10 years to your look, and that is why people say ‘when you get old you should cut your hair up’.”

The content creator claims that adding three steps to a shower routine can help maintain healthy locks later in life.

"Scalp health is very important,” said Tammy. “You should be using a clarifying shampoo that is colour-safe.

”I also use a scalp stimulator brush. I will massage my scalp quickly with this all the way around. What I’m doing is I’m helping to stimulate blood flow.

“You’ll see you’re stimulating blood flow [because] your face will get a little red, which is great for the roots of your head.”

When drying her hair, Tammy likes using Turbie towels, claiming they have great absorption.

“I like these because I think they absorb a lot of the moisture out, and I like to get as much moisture out before I start my styling," she explained.

Tammy stresses that you should not rub the hair strands dry with the towel, as the friction damages hair while it is wet.

Instead, she recommends you “squeeze the water out”, adding: “I never rub because I already have frizzy hair.”

As the hair on the scalp starts thinning, the skin beneath becomes increasingly visible.

Vicky Derosa claimed on her TikTok page that washing hair too frequently can speed up thinning.

“I’m 59 years old," she told her followers. “At 59 years I can tell you there is one thing that’s going to make the biggest difference to your hair. More than anything you can buy.

“Don’t wash your hair. Look, I don’t care if you think it’s yucky. If you wash your hair every single day it is just not good for it. There is no way to have super healthy hair if you wash your hair every single day."
