A hair care enthusiast swears that her weekly routine is the gold standard for achieving longer hair

While hair thickness is primarily down to genetics, lifestyle factors affect the health and appearance of locks.

Holistic practices with ayurvedic roots have often garnered a lot of attention in the hair industry, with hair oiling receiving particular focus.

Social media platforms are bursting with anecdotal evidence that hair oiling is the gold standard for achieving thicker hair.

Hair care enthusiast Nagina (@itsnaginadarling) credited the hack for giving her long and shiny locks.

The caption of the clip read: "Been doing it on and off for years," while she clarified in the video that she repeats the routine weekly for "long and thick hair". Oils like rosemary and coconut oils are often praised for their benefits on the hair.

While there is limited evidence that oiling alone can make hair grow faster, it is known to support growth by nourishing the scalp.

It also helps by improving circulation and reducing breakages. This ultimately creates an environment conducive to healthier hair growth.

Moreover, evidence suggests that scalp massages play a key role in promoting thicker hair.

The habit increases blood flow to the scalp, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles.

In 2016, a study published in the journal Eplasty investigated the effects of regular scalp massages on Japanese men.

The findings showed that just four minutes of daily massages led to a significant increase in hair thickness in the respondents.

The researchers found that applying light pressure to the skin affected the hair-growing cells by altering the behaviour of their genes.

These mechanisms are believed to eventually make hair thicker and potentially influence the rate of hair growth.

CEO at All Shook Up Hair Salons, Pamela Petrorius, has previously told GB News how massaging and washing the scalp can enhance hair elasticity.

According to Pamela, double cleansing is another beneficial hack for healthier hair.
