The appearance of your hair is determined by a combination of factors, such as hair care, routine, diet and genetics.
Looking after your scalp will also impact how healthy your hair looks and how well it grows.
This is according to Dr Hamdan Abdullah Hamed, MBChB, a board-certified dermatologist and trichologist and co-founder of PowerYourCurls.com.
He shared that a "healthy scalp is very important for nice hair growth" and there are three care tips that can help you achieve this.
Wash regularly
Women are often warned about overwashing as this can strip your hair of oils, making it appear duller. However, you should be careful not to skip too many washes.
He said: "Use mild shampoo without sulfate that keeps your hair’s natural oils. Don't wash too many times or too few; find a good balance for yourself."
Scrub your scalp
Many people will exfoliate their faces and bodies for clearer skin, but the scalp can also benefit from a good scrub.
Dr Hamed continued: "Like your skin, your scalp can gather dead skin and leftover products. Scrubbing helps to keep it fresh and well."
Moisturise
Similarly, moisturiser is a must in many people's skin care routine, but it is also important for the scalp.
The doctor recommended natural but hydrating products that could help your hair to grow. He said: "Try to use natural oils such as coconut oil or jojoba oil.
