Using the right products and ingredients is essential for luscious, healthy hair. But with so many options on the market, picking what to buy can become overwhelming.

A dermatologist discussed exclusively with GB News what products women should use for their hair.

Hair expert at The Lister Hospital Dr Angela Tewari recommended using a deep conditioning hair mask "every few washes to help rejuvenate" hair.

The dermatologist said: "Opting for deep conditioning masks can help keep hair strong and hydrated."

The product is also great for those who colour their hair, although Dr Tewari encouraged people to "limit" using chemical dyes.

She explained: "Chemical treatments such as bleaching, excessive dyeing, and relaxers should be limited to prevent weakening and thinning of the hair."

A study published by Springer Open supported the dermatologist's position. It noted: "Excessive bleaching significantly compromises the structural integrity of hair by stripping away the cuticle layer and causing extensive internal damage.

"The findings underscored the importance of carefully managing hair treatments to minimise damage and maintain hair health."

When washing your hair, there are several ways to ensure it remains "vibrant and healthy", such as using lukewarm water instead of hot water.

Dr Tewari said: "It is essential to use lukewarm water, as high temperatures can strip hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness and brittleness.

"A final rinse with cool water can also be beneficial, as it helps to seal the hair cuticle, making hair appear shinier and less frizzy."

It is important not to overwash your hair as this can remove "essential oils and weaken the hair's structure".

The hair expert said: "To maintain optimal scalp health, it's best to limit hair washing to two or three times per week."

With the sun slowly starting to emerge, remember to "protect your hair from the heat and UV rays", as prolonged sun exposure can damage your barnet.

Dr Tewari recommended: "Using heat protectants before styling and wearing a hat or UV-protective spray when exposed to the sun."

Another hair expert has shared exclusively with GB News what they believe is "fundamental for maintaining healthy hair".
