Making sure your orchids get all the nutrition they need can be a tricky task, particularly in winter.
An orchid grower has shone a new light on the problem and shared a method they use which provides orchids with the nourishments they require.
"If you have an orchid that is about to bloom, this method will give it strength for new flowers," said the YouTuber, from the channel Orchid Care.
All people require is some potato peels and a litre of boiling water.

The grower said: "Place the peels in a jug and add approximately one litre of boiling water.
"Potato peels promote rooting and provide energy to weak orchids."
Once the peels are in the jug, add approximately one litre of boiling water to it. Cover up the jug and let it cool down.
When the jug has cooled down, filter out the potato peels from the mixture and get ready to start providing your orchids with the nutrients they crave.
"To care for leaves, gently rub the leaves with potato water, rubbing both sides of the leaves," said the content creator.
The YouTuber used a cotton pad, squeezed out with the potato water on it and delicately dabbed the orchid's leaves.
It is crucial to be very precise with the dabbing process, making sure that each area of the orchid receives the nutrients it requires.
Potato water contains potassium and phosphorus which is essential for flowering and growing of orchids.

The orchid grower said to not get the potato water in the centre of the plant

When approaching the roots, the YouTuber said to only water when the roots appear grey.
They said: "Water at room temperature for 10 minutes, up to half the vase. The roots must turn green, now they are ready to receive nutrients."
People are advised to soak their orchids in potato water for 30 minutes but do not wet the centre of the orchid as this can cause collar rot.
