Gardeners may have mowed their lawns for the final time this year, but there are still some important jobs to do to protect lawns

The lawn is often the biggest part of a garden and it is important to keep it in good condition.

Experts have shared the jobs to do in November for a healthy lawn.

This includes gathering and removing debris, using a fertiliser and getting rid of any weeds.

"[This month], collect leaves and other debris that has fallen from trees or garden beds to avoid damaging the lawn over winter," experts at Boston Seeds said.

"Weed the lawn, pulling any weeds you can reach."

They added using a good fertiliser now will also help the lawn to stay "healthy and green over winter".

Lawn aeration can also be done at this time. This involves making holes in the ground to help air, water and nutrients get into the soil.

The experts added Britons should "aerate and reduce shady areas to help control moss".

Britons can do their final mow of the year in November, depending on the weather and the condition of their lawn.

If doing so, they should take care not to cut the grass too short as it could leave brown patches in the winter.

The experts continued: "Mow if necessary, but it’s likely to be your last cut of the year."

Knowing what gardening jobs need to be done at different times of the year is important to keep it in its best health.

Gardening expert Monty Don shared advice for Britons hoping to get a head start next year.

He said it is important to think of what can be planted now.

"November is a very good month for planting trees, shrubs, hedges and perennials," the expert explained.

"It is also the perfect time for planting tulips both in pots and in the ground."

The expert added that, although the weather has changed, Britons should not forget about their gardens.

This comes as gardening experts shared the most "damaging" gardening mistakes to stop making now.

Some of these could cause "problems for you and your neighbour", experts said.
