Spring is here and temperatures are starting to climb, but this can prove tricky for houseplant owners trying to navigate changing weather conditions.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, an expert shared three seasonal houseplant care tips.
Although it is getting warmer and brighter, don't take this as a reason to overwater your plants, gardening expert and Owner of The Harden Garden Ryan Harden said.
If you are still using the heating, remember to put moisture back into the air and ensure plants get plenty of light.
Scaling back on plant watering
Ryan said: "The number one office plant killer this season is overwatering. Only water when the top inch of soil is dry, which can be checked with the 'finger test'."
Using climatic conditions to raise leaf humidity
The expert explained: "Air-drying heating systems can dry up the air, thus grouping plants together or placing pebbles in a tray can raise humidity levels."
Adjusting for limited light
"Plants should be rotated weekly, and inexpensive full spectrum grow lights can be added to low-light spots," he added.
This will become less of an issue as the days get longer, and British Summer Time begins this weekend. However, it is important to monitor the conditions in your home as the seasons change.
Indeed, founder and CEO of TN Nursery, Tammy Sons, shared similar advice. She told Britons: "I ensure my houseplants receive adequate indirect sunlight throughout the year with adjusted watering levels that decrease during winter and increase as temperatures rise.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
"Cleaning their leaves on a regular basis keeps dust away and improves their ability to conduct photosynthesis.
"To promote healthy growth, I use organic fertilizer infrequently so that the plants receive a gentle natural enhancement without damaging their root systems.
"To maintain healthy growth I regularly monitor for pests and repot my plants when necessary. When I attend to each plant's specific requirements they prosper continuously throughout the year."
