Supermarkets across Britain are wasting no time moving on from Christmas, with Easter making an early appearance on shelves nationwide.

Shoppers were shocked to find an assortment of Easter treats for sale at their local Tesco, sharing the news on social media.

The news was shared in the Facebook Group UK Bargains Finder, in a post captioned: "Easter eggs on sale on Boxing Day Leyland area Lancashire."

The social media reaction was far from positive, with some shoppers branding the move "far too early".

Another Facebook user described the decision "sad and pathetic" while a third shopper joked that the eggs may be "last spring's leftovers".

Morrisons has also begun stocking Easter chocolate products just one day after Christmas, with seasonal treats already appearing on shelves on Boxing Day.

Among the early arrivals is the Terry's Chocolate Orange Minis Exploding Candy Easter egg, priced at £1.50.

The swift transition to Easter confectionery was first spotted and shared by food blog Newfoodsuk, which announced the Easter egg's availability at the supermarket chain.

The public reaction on social media has been notably divided, with contrasting responses flooding in.

"I would definitely eat that," wrote one enthusiastic customer, while another urged a friend to "keep [their] eyes open for these."

Others expressed frustration at the early arrival. "Why are they showing Easter eggs? We haven't even got over December or New Year, what's the rush?" questioned one social media user.

"Stop it! Christmas isn't over yet," commented another shopper.

The Terry's egg isn't the only Easter treat already available at Morrisons, with several Cadbury items joining the early seasonal line-up.
