Sainsbury's shoppers will experience a throwback to the 90s as the price of Cadbury’s iconic Freddo bars drops down to 10p.

The supermarket giant has lowered the price of the chocolate treats exclusively for Nectar members - so shoppers must hurry, as the offer ends on May 7.


The delicious treat-size frog made from Cadbury’s trademark Dairy Milk chocolate has been a family favourite for generations.

Freddo bars used to retail at 10p in the 1990s but have become progressively more expensive over time due to inflation.

Rachel Clark, Sainsbury’s director of grocery, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating such an iconic moment for Cadbury and its milestone of 200 years as a loved chocolate brand."

The new 10p price tag will mark a 15p drop from the usual cost of a Freddo’s chocolate bar at Sainsbury's.

The price of the chocolate product is currently 25p, but it has been as high as 36p in the past.

In just eight years, the cost of Freddos jumped from 10p in 2006 to 25p in 2014, marking a 2p jump every year.

During that time the size of the bars had not changed in Europe, but Australia has enjoyed larger Freddo bars weighing 12 grams.

News of the latest price drop was shared on social media by Money Saving Expert, spreading excitement among shoppers.

“This is not a drill,” the caption read. “10p Freddos are back! Last time you could get a Freddo for 10p was in 2005.

“So grab your Nectar card and pop down to Sainsbury’s from Wednesday 17 April if you want to nab one (or two, or ten).”


“I’ll certainly be stocking up,” responded one fan, while another quipped: “I remember when they were like 15p!”

Cadbury is behind several iconic chocolate brands including Crunchie, Dairy Milk and Easter Favourites Creme Eggs.

Earlier this year, the chocolatier made a change to the packaging of its Dairy Milk chocolate bars by bringing back iconic designs from 1915 through to now.

The brand announced packaging from 1915, 1940, 1961,1980, 1993 and 2003 would make a comeback in 2024.

The limited edition bars are being launched in partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK, with more information about this found on the packaging.

Cadbury’s brand manager at Mondelez International Bryony Tate, said: “We’re really looking forward to celebrating 200 years of Cadbury belong to our nation this year.

“The British public has played such an important role in our history and we’re proud to celebrate being yours. We hope that the launch of our Limited Edition Cadbury Dairy Milk Bar packaging will bring a smile to people’s faces, with the seven retro designs offering something for everyone.”
