The retailer confirmed they will no longer restock a popular coffee product in sad news for shoppers

Sainsbury’s has discontinued an all-time favourite brand of coffee, leaving shoppers devastated.

Loyal customers who have purchased Kenco Duo for years reached out to retailers after noticing the fan-favourite product missing from shelves.

Staff at the supermarket’s Tonbridge branch in Kent confirmed that they had discontinued the brand.

Taking to X, a loyal customer quipped: “Very disappointed after walking across to my local Sainsbury’s [only] to find they no longer stock Kenco duo brand.

“I’ve bought this brand from your store for years and they have taken it off.”

The brand previously made news after its price climbed from £4.25 in 2021 to £5.38 in 2022.

It became so expensive that supermarkets like Tesco started adding security tags to more expensive jars.

Ocado explained that prices had reached a ten-year high due to a hike in shipping costs, weather and inflation.

Nescafe added that raw materials were becoming increasingly expensive.

Why do supermarkets discontinue popular products?

Sainsbury's explained on its website that products can be discontinued for several reasons.

“We constantly review our ranges and only make decisions when there’s a need to,” they explained.

“However, sometimes we don’t have a choice. For example, when our supplier has stopped producing a certain product.

“We’ll always make a decision that we feel will benefit the majority of our customers locally, giving the widest choice possible in the space available. These decisions are based on historical current and projected sales.”

Earlier this year, Nestle discontinued its beloved Coffee Mate Light after shoppers could no longer find the product in stores.

The international company confirmed its decision to scrap the coffee product in a tweet to a fan.

The company said: “We’re very sorry to say we have made the decision to discontinue Coffee Mate Light.

“Coffee Mate Original is low fat and low sugar when prepared, and a mug of coffee made using Coffee Mate Original contains less than 40 calories per mug.”
