Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose all stock affected products

Shoppers have been warned that chocolates sold in UK supermarkets may contain small stones.

News that two bars of Tony's Chocoloney could be harmful has prompted recalls from both Waitrose and Tesco.

Morrisons has also issued a recall, notifying customers that one of the affected bars has made it onto its shelves.

Those who shop at Morrisons should check their cupboards for Tony’s Chocolonely Milk Everything Bar 180G, with a best before date of November 27.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued warnings about the potentially dangerous products, with its latest update alerting shoppers to further affected dates and batch codes.

Britons were told: "Tony's Chocolonely is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

"These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

"If you have bought any of the above products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a refund or replacement." This latest notice by the FSA replaces the previous one.

For further information, affected shoppers can visit the Tony's Chocolonely website, which displays the most up-to-date details about the recall.

The chocolate manufacturer stated: "Whilst the chance of any individual product being affected is low, we have decided to take this step in order to ensure the safety and satisfaction of Tony’s Chocolonely consumers.

"This recall only affects these specific products and lot codes. All other Tony’s Chocolonely products remain safe to consume and are not impacted."

Food recalls must be taken seriously to ensure customer safety. The FSA explained: "If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product)."
