TK Maxx and Homesense shoppers have been issued an important safety warning

British shoppers have been called to action as a pistachio treat is recalled due to health risks.

Allergy UK provides essential information on how milk allergies may present in babies, children and adults.

Experts warned: "Cow's milk allergy is one of the most common food allergies to affect babies and young children.

"Most children will have outgrown their allergy to milk by the time they reach school age (around five years of age).

"In a small number of people who do not outgrow their allergy to cow's milk, it will persist into adulthood. Where this happens, people are more likely to experience more severe allergic reactions."

In adults, mild to moderate symptoms of an IgE (immediate) mediated allergic reaction to cow's milk include an itchy mouth, tongue and throat; swelling of the lips, around the eyes or face; red raised itchy rash (often called nettle rash, hives or urticaria); vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea; and a runny nose and sneezing.

Allergy UK warned: "Any one or more of the following symptoms are a sign of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and should be treated as a medical emergency.

"If available, adrenaline should be given without delay and an ambulance called with the call operator informed that it is anaphylaxis."

Britons were recently alerted as products sold at Tk Maxx, Homesense and Amazon were deemed dangerous.

Shoppers were warned that two hair straighteners sold at TK Maxx and Homesense "present a risk of fire".

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) stated: "The product presents a risk of fire because the plug, fuse and cables are counterfeit, and are not of sufficient quality to protect against risks of overheating, fire or electric shock."

Shoppers will receive a full refund or replacement upon returning the affected items.
