Shoppers who have purchased the product should return it to stores for a full refund
McCain GB, famous for its frozen chips, French fries and roasted potatoes, has issued an urgent food recall as several products may be unsafe to eat.
The popular frozen potato company has become aware of a third-party distributor selling imported McCain Foods India retail products as part of a small UK market trial. Consequently, packs from nine different product lines were available in 20 convenience stores as of May 19, 2024.

The products have not been properly assessed for UK market suitability

McCain GB identified an error in the third-party distributor's market suitability compliance check, so while the products met the Indian market's regulations, they have not been properly assessed for UK market suitability.
Britons have been warned that there is a possible presence of UK-specific allergens (such as mustard and celery) and ethylene oxide, which is used to preserve product seasonings.
McCain has recalled 43,663 packs that went on sale, however, 18,671 were already purchased prior to the recall.
Britons who have purchased the products have been told not to consume them.
Instead, they should return the product to the store they purchased it from. Customers will receive a full refund and a receipt is not required.
For further information, customers can contact McCain via www.mccain.co.uk/contact-us, customer.relations@mccain.co.uk or 0800 146573, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, except Bank Holidays.
A McCain spokesperson told GB News: "We take the safety and well-being of customers extremely seriously and are recalling these products out of an abundance of caution." McCain apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Food recalls are not very common but must always be taken seriously. Sainsbury's has shared an urgent recall for 13 items with a choking risk.
Baked products have been pulled from shelves as they may contain pieces of metal.
Britons have been warned as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and more issue food and product recalls over customer safety risks.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) explained why products are sometimes pulled from shelves.
The FSA said: "If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).
"The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.
"In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers."
