Britons should check if they have affected batches

Two Christmas condiments that can be bought in UK stores and online have been recalled amid allergy fears.

The chutneys could contain peanuts that are not mentioned on the ingredient list.

The company stated: "Due to possible peanut contamination in mustard seed at the ingredient supplier, as a precautionary measure we are recalling batch number 1--015 of Bothams Great Yorkshire Pickle, and 1--007 of Red Tomato Relish, sold through our Shops and online during this year.

"No other Botham’s products are affected. If you have a peanut allergy you are advised to return these products labelled with the batch numbers above to any Bothams shop for a replacement product or refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The notice comes as part of a larger recall where several brands that use the same supplier have had to pull items, including Waitrose, Iceland and Papa John's.

Peanut allergies can vary in severity, but they can cause symptoms such as hives, vomiting, shortness of breath and, in extreme cases, death, according to Allergy UK.

Anyone with the affected batches and with an allergy or intolerance to peanuts should not consume it. Instead, they can swap it in stores for a refund or replacement.

The Food Standards Agency added: "Several brands are taking the precautionary step of recalling the above products and have been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

"These products are sold under several different brand names at several different retail stores.

"Point of sale notices will be displayed where the products were sold."

These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products."

This comes as Lidl customers in Northern Ireland were urged to check for a chicken product that could cause severe sickness.
