Mars has been making chocolate in the UK for more than 90 years

A retro chocolate will be relaunched after more than three decades off supermarket shelves.

The Marathon Bar (rebranded as Snickers in 1990) is set to make a comeback in the UK.

Confectionary company Mars announced the "special Marathon retro edition" in a nod to fans who remember its former identity back in the day.

It marks an exciting time for Mars, as the company celebrates a big birthday and almost 100 years of producing tasty treats.

Senior brand manager Steve Waters said: "We’re excited to bring back the Marathon bar branding for a limited period.

"It’s a great way to celebrate over 90 years of Mars making chocolate in the UK. We hope fans of Snickers, who remember when it was called Marathon, will enjoy picking it up in-store," reported The Guardian.

The Snickers brand is older than the Marathon brand, with the first Snickers bar manufactured in 1930 in Chicago.

When the product came to the UK in 1968 it was given the name Marathon, and it is believed this is the case due to concerns that Snickers rhymes with 'knickers'.

In 1990, Marathon eventually changed to Snickers to match its American counterpart for a more universal branding.

Fans of the chocolate, nougat, caramel and peanut bar will be able to snap up a retro Marathon bar from Morrisons.

However, as a limited-edition product, they will not be around forever, so Britons might want to make haste.

This comes as another supermarket made a nod to a beloved nostalgic treat.

Aldi has launched a "nostalgic" new rosé reminiscent of a popular 90s sweet, telling Britons their "tastebuds will be transported".

In other Morrisons news, the supermarket introduced a three-course meal for £10 complete with "customer favourites".

Just some of the offerings include mains of Coq Au Vin and Crackling Pork Belly Joint, sides of Garlic Ciabatta Bread and Green Vegetables, and desserts of Raspberry Panna Cotta and Twin Lemon & Passionfruit Posset.
