Marks & Spencer has overhauled packaging to remove plastic and make items easier to recycle
Marks & Spencer has swapped the packaging on its sandwiches and toasties.
Plastic has been replaced with cardboard or paper packaging in the latest change to help customers shop more sustainable.
The packaging will still have a small window to allow shoppers to see the food they are selecting.
The packaging change has helped the retailer to cut plastic by 79 per cent.

This comes as M&S introduced new coffee cups in a bid to cut back on waste.
Takeaway coffee cups can be difficult to recycle because of the plastic lining inside.
M&S rolled new cups made from paper fibre that are fully recyclable.
Last year, the retailer hit targets to remove 75 million units of plastic in 2023/24.
The new sandwich packaging - that is rolling out now - will remove an additional 4.5 million units of plastic.
Head of sustainability at M&S Food commented: “Our sandwiches and toasties in M&S Cafés are particularly popular options as customers look to sit down and relax when shopping with us.
"With a brand-new menu for 2024 came an opportunity to innovate in our packaging - removing and reducing unnecessary plastic, to lower our impact on the planet.

"We know plastic is an issue our customers care deeply about and this small change to packaging in our cafés - with no compromise on quality or taste - will make a big impact on our Plan A roadmap to net zero.”
Those who visit a M&S café will also find its new menu that includes more vegan and gluten-free options.
Hungry Britons can tuck into a gluten-free Tomato, Mozzarella & Basil Pesto Toastie for £6.50 or a Very Veggie vegan Toastie at £6.50.
A new vegan Avocado & Rainbow Veg Sandwich will also be available, costing £6.
