The company broke the news on Instagram, sparking outrage

Lipton Ice Tea fans across the UK have been left devastated after the popular drinks brand announced the discontinuation of its beloved peach flavour, but the company has now confirmed the announcement was just a ruse.

The shocking news came via the company's Instagram account on Tuesday evening, triggering an outpour of dismay on social media, with many refusing to accept the decision.

Customers expressed their heartbreak as Lipton confirmed the fan-favourite drink would no longer be available.

Lipton shared a poignant image of a Peach Ice Tea can adorned with angel wings on their Instagram page.

"You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is getting discontinued," the company's statement read.

But the company has since shared a new post stating: “Oops, is it still March? Got my dates mixed up… thought it was April Fools already! I’d never take away your favourite flavour, pookies.

“Your love for Peach has not gone unnoticed. But I’ve got your back, I will be sending a surprise to the biggest fans with the best reactions ;)”

The company's original post had acknowledged the emotional impact on customers, leaving fans bewildered.

They attempted to soften the blow by reassuring fans that "the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed".

The reaction from fans was swift and emotional, with many expressing their disbelief in the comments section.

One devastated customer wrote: "It's the only flavour people like? Why are you doing this????? Delete and pretend you got hacked."

"This drink gives me the will to live," mourned another passionate fan.

Others were equally dramatic, with one commenting: "Not sure why you'd ruin my life like this to be honest, bit rude."

Some questioned the timing, with one asking: "I immediately went to check if it was 1st April??!!!! What is happening?"

The drinks company did offer a glimmer of hope for disappointed customers in their statement.

"Who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback," Lipton teased.

However, the brand stopped short of providing any timeline for when the popular flavour might return.

Lipton concluded their announcement with an apology, stating: "We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The post ended with the hashtag "#RIPeach", seemingly marking the official farewell to the beloved beverage.
