Heinz has announced the launch of a new pasta sauce inspired by an epic crime film.

The food company stated: "In this exciting new partnership, Heinz and Paramount have joined forces to create a brand-new pasta sauce inspired by the iconic Paramount Pictures film The Godfather.

"This new limited-edition Heinz & The Godfather Pasta Sauce features the ingredients detailed in the film by Peter 'leave the gun, take the cannoli' Clemenza as he teaches Michael Corleone how to cook the perfect pasta sauce. However, unlike revenge, this pasta sauce is a dish best served hot."

Detailing the ingredients, Heinz said: "Well, you take some good sun-ripened tomatoes - grown by the Heinz tomato masters in Italy, of course. They’re the best. Then, put them in a pot with a little bit of olive oil and garlic, shove in some meatballs, some sausage. Add salt and pepper to taste. That’s it."

The new movie-inspired product is available in Heinz' bigger 490g jars - "there’s enough to feed the whole family".

But pasta fans must act fast as the product is limited-edition, available for five weeks.

They can get their hands on it exclusively on heinztohome.co.uk and Waitrose nationwide from February 28.

It is also available at Ocado nationwide from March 1 at an RRP of £3.

And Britons can enjoy the sauce guilt-free, as it contains no added sugar and provides one of your five a day.

Heinz New Ventures Director Caio Fontenele commented on the launch. He said: "Paramount Pictures’ The Godfather remains one of the greatest films in cinema history.

"And after we watched Clemenza teaching Michael how to make his perfect pasta sauce, alongside seeing a rising trend on social media of people replicating recipes from their favourite films and TV series at home, we knew it had to be Heinz that finally brought this iconic recipe to the nation.

“This unexpected yet iconic collaboration is set to unleash excitement and disruption in the pasta sauces category, whether you’re a long-time fan of The Godfather or just looking for a new great-tasting pasta dish."

VP of Consumer Products for Paramount Global Rebecca Jenkins also commented. She said: “At Paramount, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to bring our beloved stories and characters to fans.

"Our collaboration with Heinz brings one of cinema’s most iconic meals from the big screen onto dinner tables and we can’t wait for fans to experience Clemenza’s mouth-watering pasta sauce in real life."

Speaking about the launch, Waitrose said: "Waitrose is the first and exclusive high street retailer to offer the newest addition to the iconic Heinz pasta sauce collection and one that customers can’t refuse.

"In addition to offering the new sauce, our Canary Wharf shop has installed a recreation of the famous office from the film itself giving customers the opportunity to take a picture as The Godfather sitting in the chair."

Waitrose Branded Innovation Manager Oliver Chadwyck-Healey said: "The Heinz x Absolut sauce that we exclusively launched last year was a huge success and loved by our customers, so we’re delighted to be working with Heinz once again on the launch of their latest sauce, The Godfather, which is sure to be another sell-out sensation.

"The installation at our Canary Wharf shop is really exciting for us, and we can’t wait to see the pictures of our customers immersing themselves in The Godfather experience at Waitrose."
