Customers are devastated by the bakery chain's decision to halt sales of the popular baguette

Greggs customers across the UK have been left fuming after the popular bakery chain removed its ham salad baguette from the menu.

Fans of the lunchtime favourite have reported scouring multiple branches in search of the item, only to find it's no longer available.

The baguette has disappeared from shelves in favour of other fresh options, despite regulars insisting it was a popular choice.

Customers have taken to social media to express their frustration at the decision to halt sales of the sandwich, which appears to have been removed around the start of this year.

One customer asked on X: "Why have you stopped selling ham salad baguettes? I've been in multiple stores and none have had any or even a place on the shelf where they would be."

Another lamented: "Was so upset to be told that your ham salad baguettes have been discontinued while at your Marlborough store today. That's my midweek treat every week."

"I would have loved a ham salad baguette but for some bizarre reason, you have stopped doing them! Scandalous!" wrote a third.

On Reddit, one devastated fan called it their "favourite baguette of theirs!!"

Greggs has hinted the popular item might return, with a spokesman saying: "The Ham Salad Baguette is taking a break from the menu."

The chain reassured customers they still offer "an extensive range of freshly prepared baguettes" including Roast Chicken & Bacon Club, Tuna Crunch and Tandoori Chicken.

Customers could try the ham and egg salad roll as an alternative, typically priced around £3.25.

Last month, Greggs announced the introduction of a new barbecue crispy chicken burger and wrap as part of its hot made-to-order range.

This range is currently available in 150 shops, with plans to expand to 300 branches by Spring.

The chain has also recently launched a fish finger sandwich and wrap.

Last year, Greggs removed its vegan steak bakes to make way for new choices.

These changes reflect the company's strategy of regularly refreshing its menu to introduce "fresh and innovative options" that create buzz around new launches.
