A team of chocolate lovers from GB News sampled Easter eggs from the UK's major supermarkets to determine this year's top treat

With Easter fast approaching, Britons across the UK are racing to find the ultimate chocolate egg.

To help you select your perfect treat, GB News has sampled the best of Tesco, Asda, M&S, Aldi, Morrisons and more to determine this year's top offering.

According to this group of chocolate enthusiasts, Morrisons The Best Milk & Blonde Chocolate With Honeycomb Easter Egg is the one to beat.

Morrisons The Best Milk & Blonde Chocolate With Honeycomb Easter Egg 240g (£7.50) - 4.2/5

Scoring an impressive 4.2/5, Morrisons The Best Milk & Blonde Chocolate With Honeycomb Easter Egg was by far the team's favourite.

Described as "yummy", "creamy", and "luxurious - but not too rich", this Easter offering received a near-perfect rating. One GB News reviewer even gave it 5/5.

Sainsbury's Belgian Milk Chocolate Tiramisu XL Easter Egg, Taste the Difference 230g (£10) - 3/5

In second, Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Belgian Milk Chocolate Tiramisu XL Easter Egg received a score of 3/5.

The milk chocolate was complemented nicely by some crunchy caramelised biscuits, and the team enjoyed the coffee flavourings.

However, if you're a tiramisu die-hard looking for a strong espresso taste, you may be disappointed. While it definitely boasts a hint of coffee, the flavours could be stronger.

Exceptional by ASDA Caramel, Pretzel & Honeycomb Milk Chocolate Egg 300g (£7.98) - 2.9/5

Hot on the heels of Sainsbury's egg was the Exceptional by ASDA Caramel, Pretzel & Honeycomb Milk Chocolate Egg, scoring 2.9/5.

GB News reviewers praised the thickness of the egg and enjoyed the "generous" amount of honeycomb. "It had a good crunch and chocolate combo," one reviewer stated.

However, the team agreed that it was a little too "sickly sweet" to receive the top spot or second place.

Co-op Irresistible Marbled Millionaires Chocolate Egg 200g (£4) - 2.8/5

Narrowly missing out on the top three was the Co-op Irresistible Marbled Millionaires Chocolate Egg, with a score of 2.8/5.

Co-op's egg was the prettiest - and cheapest - of the selection, with one reviewer describing its appearance as "show-stopping".

But while the egg was "rich" and "velvety" in taste, the flavours "didn't jump out".

Waitrose The Cracking Pistachio Easter Egg 320g (£17) - 2.75/5

Waitrose The Cracking Pistachio Easter Egg is widely hailed as one of the best supermarket Easter eggs, but unfortunately, the GB News team was not totally convinced.

While the white chocolate egg received a few superb ratings of 4 and 4.5, others awarded it an average 2/5.

The main criticisms were that it was "too sweet" and "needed more pistachio". At £17, it's also very expensive - although its extra large size means it can feed a few.

Lidl Deluxe Caramelised Biscuit Milk Chocolate Layered Egg 225g (£8.99) - 2/5

Resembling Lotus Biscoff, Lidl's Deluxe Caramelised Biscuit Milk Chocolate Layered Egg is a great option for biscuit fanatics. If you love caramelised biscuits, you'll love this.

However, for those who aren't obsessed with this flavour, the biscuity spread on the egg may be a little too "sickly" for most - explaining its 2/5 score.

While the GB News team were huge fans of the chocolate-crunch combo some of the other eggs offered, they were decidedly less enamoured with the chocolate-spread mix.

Tesco Finest Dark Milk Chocolate Hollow Egg 228g (£12) - 1.4/5

Scoring just 1.4/5 was the Tesco Finest Dark Milk Chocolate Hollow Egg.

Dark chocolate is admittedly an acquired taste, and the taste test team was primarily comprised of milk and white chocolate fans.

Reviewers thought Tesco's egg was a bit "bitter" for their liking and would have preferred it in milk.

The team did praise its "classy" appearance, though, which featured chocolate specks that looked like glitter.

While you're picking up your chocolate eggs this year, it wouldn't be right to ignore another Easter staple: the mighty Hot Cross Bun.

In a second seasonal taste test, GB News shared the best hot cross buns to buy this year from M&S, Aldi, Tesco and more.
